Abstract

Rapid increase in volume and types of solid and hazardous waste due to continuous economic growth, urbanization and industrialization, is becoming a burgeoning problem for national and local governments to ensure efficient and sustainable waste management. Improper waste management gives rise to issues related to sanitization. In these days of pandemic sanitization and effective waste management is of utmost importance. The foremost step towards proper waste management is their segregation and maximum possible reuse. This paper proposes a smart dustbin which automatically segregates refuse into dry, wet and metallic waste. Post waste segregation, wet garbage is further decomposed to produce fertilizer. The system uses a microcontroller which will coordinate with the conductive sensor, moisture sensor, ultrasonic sensor and servo motor to carry out the segregation.
